Trailer Tires vs Passenger Tires

Trailer tires aren't designed like passenger tires for a car or light truck. This is due to the role each type of tire plays. It's also the reason tire manufacturers recommend you use specialty trailer tires (ST tires) on trailers. Here's why:

Passenger Tires: Your standard passenger and light truck tires are designed with traction in mind, so you can turn and stop. These tires also have flexible sidewalls that play a role in ride comfort.

Trailer Tires: Trailer service tires come in many sizes for different types of trailers and trailer applications. Trailer service tires feature a heavy-duty construction and can use higher inflation pressures to provide the load capacity needed to safely match the needs of the specific trailer and its payload. The stiffer sidewalls help control sway for towing stability, and they offer more bruise resistance than standard passenger car tires. These heavy-duty special purpose tires are not meant for use on cars or trucks.
